Marina Pérez Llorca

Postdoctoral Researcher

Marina graduated in Biology and obtained a master’s degree in Environmental Agrobiology at the University of Barcelona, where she completed her PhD in 2021 in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, and Plant Physiology. Her doctoral research focused on the mechanisms of tolerance and resilience to abiotic stress in Mediterranean plants, with particular attention to antioxidants and phytohormones. During this period, she conducted research stays at Leiden University (Netherlands), Cardiff University (United Kingdom), and the University of Cape Town (South Africa). After completing her PhD, she worked at the University of Évora (Portugal) in the forestry field, studying the response of woody species to water stress and climate change. Since 2023, she has been carrying out postdoctoral research at the University of Barcelona, focusing on organic agriculture and sustainability, promoting farming practices that enhance the nutritional quality of food. Her current research centers on plant secondary metabolism, including polyphenols, and on advancing the local circular economy, highlighting the essential role of primary producers in the food chain.
