Green tea

In Asian countries, green tea is known for its traditional use in detoxifying and improving blood flow. It has also been shown to intervene in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and cancer, as well as in gastrointestinal disorders.

The main flavonols found in green tea are (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), (-)-epicatechin-3-gallate (ECG), and (-)-epicatechin (EC); EGCG being the most abundant and widely studied polyphenol in tea.

Our studies

In our research group, we have identified the presence of these compounds in green tea extracts and evaluated their absorption in biological samples after oral administration.
